The grief of grade school was alleviated by a healthily wild imagination, while healants for the hardships of high school were found in the washboard, juggling and the Dave Matthews Band (where for many of my fellow teenagers it was drugs, fast cars and sneaking into bars...to an extent.) Graduating seventeenth out of eighty-five in a class where close to thirty entered military service mostly out of nepotism and the rally call of the deceptive events of 9/11, Alek was glad to close the first chapter of his young life by NOT juggling as he walked across the stage to receive his diploma, therefore causing people to lose friendly bets that he would.

Paralleling his brother Nic's choices following high school, but instead in an altogether opposite direction, Alek made the move to Montreal, Canada, mirroring his brother's move to Miami six years prior. As a result, Nic became "the hunk" and Alek "the funk" (defined as: the purveyor of intellectual style and groove). While attending Concordia University, Alek found great inspiration through classes in philosophy, religion, science, psychology, film studies, orchestral and choral performance, Rock 'n' Roll history, anatomy, marketing, short fiction and creative writing; accompanied by credits in scriptwriting for film and media, psychology of communication, semiotics (the study of signs), as well as communication theory and ethics. Contact Alek if you would like to pay him to be a career student...to an extent.
